If you have ever searched your symptoms at midnight and convinced yourself of something rare and terrible, you already know that technology and health information mix unevenly.
AI in a clinical setting is a different proposition from a search engine — but it is not the one the marketing usually describes either. Here is an honest account of where we use it and where we do not.
What these tools are genuinely good at
Pattern recognition on images and signals is where the technology performs well: flagging areas of interest on a scan, analysing skin parameters, spotting a trend across a series of results that a human reading them one at a time might not join up.
They are also good at the unglamorous work — organising records, surfacing a result that has not been actioned, checking a prescription against a medication list.
Where they fail
An algorithm sees the data it is given. It does not see that you have been unwell for three months and are frightened, that your mother had the same symptom, or that the finding on the scan does not fit the person sitting in the room.
It also inherits the limitations of what it was trained on, which is why performance can differ between populations. And it cannot take responsibility for a decision — which in medicine is not a technicality.
Where we actually use it
The clearest example is our aesthetics platform, where the device reads skin parameters and sets treatment settings, rather than the same settings being applied to every face. The practitioner reviews and adjusts.
Used this way the technology makes treatment more consistent. It does not replace the person delivering it.
What to ask any clinic using AI
The questions below separate a considered implementation from a marketing claim.
- Who reviews the output, and are they licensed?
- What happens when the tool and the clinician disagree?
- What is the tool actually used for — imaging, triage, records, treatment settings?
- Where does my data go, and who can see it?
Common questions
Can AI diagnose medical conditions?
AI tools can flag findings and identify patterns, sometimes very accurately within a narrow task. They do not diagnose. At this clinic a DHA-licensed doctor reviews every result and makes the clinical decision.
Is AI in healthcare safe?
It depends entirely on how it is used. As an assistant with a clinician reviewing the output, it adds consistency. Used to replace clinical judgement, it removes the part of the process that catches its mistakes.
