What is PRP Hair Restoration?

PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma) hair restoration uses a small sample of your own blood, spun to concentrate the platelets, which is then injected into the scalp to support the hair follicles' natural growth cycle.

A meta-analysis of nine randomised trials covering 238 patients found PRP significantly increased hair density at three and six months compared with placebo, with no serious adverse reactions reported.1 Be precise about the rest of that result: hair count and hair diameter improved from baseline but did not differ significantly from placebo.

A wider review of injectable treatments for pattern hair loss reports benefit, while calling the evidence base limited by small samples, varying protocols and short follow-up.2

PRP works best where follicles are still active. It supports thinning hair rather than restoring long-bald areas, and a doctor should assess which of those describes you before you commit to a course.

How it works

A small blood sample is taken and processed in a centrifuge to separate the platelet-rich plasma. The PRP is then injected into thinning areas of the scalp with very fine needles.
