Do you treat children's skin conditions?
Yes. Eczema, childhood rashes, warts, molluscum and fungal infections are all seen. Treatment is chosen for the child's age and where on the body it is, which is why the same rash is not treated the same way in a toddler and an adult.
When should I get a mole checked?
Have any mole looked at if it changes shape, size or colour, becomes itchy or bleeds, or simply looks different from your others. The assessment is a clinical examination; where a mole needs removing it is sent for laboratory analysis rather than discarded.
What can be done about pigmentation and melasma?
The first step is identifying the cause, because melasma, sun damage and post-inflammatory pigmentation look similar and respond to different things. Treatment usually combines daily sun protection with topical or in-clinic options, and works over months rather than weeks.
Can hair loss be treated?
It depends on the cause, which is what the consultation establishes. Blood tests check for iron, thyroid and hormonal causes, and the scalp is examined; treatment might be medical, injectable, or simply treating the underlying problem.
Is acne treated differently from acne scarring?
Yes, and in that order. Active acne is settled first with medical treatment, because resurfacing skin that is still breaking out tends to make matters worse. Scarring is then assessed by type, as rolling, boxcar and ice-pick scars respond differently.
How long does a dermatology appointment take?
Around twenty minutes for a first consultation. A minor procedure such as removing a skin lesion is booked separately so there is time to do it properly.
