Questions people ask
Does laser hair removal hurt?
Most people describe mild warmth or a light flick against the skin. The Candela GentleMax Pro cools the skin as it works, and the settings are adjusted to what you find comfortable.
How many sessions will I need?
Usually six to eight, spaced four to six weeks apart. Hair grows in cycles and a session only affects the hairs actively growing that day, which is why a course is needed rather than a single visit. Maintenance sessions are common afterwards.
Should I shave before my appointment?
Yes, shave the area the day before or the morning of your session. Do not wax, thread or pluck for four weeks beforehand, because the laser works on the hair root and those methods remove it.
Does it work on dark skin?
The Candela GentleMax Pro has two wavelengths, and the Nd:YAG is used for darker skin tones. Settings are matched to your skin tone at the patch test, which happens before any full session.
Is laser hair removal permanent?
It produces long-term hair reduction rather than permanent removal. Most people are left with far less hair, and finer and lighter where it does return; hormonal changes can prompt new growth later, which maintenance sessions manage.
What should I avoid after a session?
Sun exposure, hot showers, sauna, steam, heavy exercise and active skincare such as retinoids or acids for a couple of days. Keep the area cool, moisturised and protected with sunscreen.
Can I have laser during pregnancy?
We do not treat during pregnancy. There is no evidence of harm, but there is also no good evidence of safety, and hormonal changes make results unpredictable. Sessions can resume after you have finished breastfeeding.
