High Blood Pressure (Hypertension) Specialist in Dubai

High blood pressure causes no symptoms and most of the strokes. It is diagnosed by measuring properly, on more than one occasion, and treated to a target that depends on your other risks. At Smart Care Polyclinic in Deira, an internal medicine specialist confirms the diagnosis, looks for the causes that can be fixed, checks the organs it affects, and chooses medicines that work for you.

For: raised readings, medication that is not working, side effects

Takes: a 30-minute consultation; ECG and bloods on site

Price: consultation AED 125

A cuff on a supported arm at heart level, at rest, on more than one occasion. Blood pressure is a diagnosis made by measuring properly, not by a single clinic reading.

What it is

Measurement comes first. The 2025 guideline sets out how blood pressure should be taken — seated, rested, arm supported, correct cuff, repeated — and how the readings are classified; a single high reading in a clinic is not a diagnosis, and home or ambulatory monitoring is used to confirm it and to unmask the people whose pressure is only high in front of a doctor.1

Most hypertension has no single cause, but some does, and the specialist checks for the treatable ones: kidney disease, an adrenal hormone excess, thyroid disease, sleep apnoea, and medicines and supplements that raise pressure. Bloods, urine and an ECG at the first visit look for those and for the effects of pressure on the kidneys and heart.

Treatment is lifestyle first, medicines when needed, and both together for most. Salt reduction, weight loss, activity and less alcohol each lower pressure measurably. Medicines are chosen from four main classes for your age, ethnicity, kidney function and other conditions, and combined at low doses rather than pushed to high doses of one. The target is set for you — tighter with diabetes or kidney disease — and reviewed with home readings.

Resistant hypertension

Pressure that stays high on three medicines is assessed differently: for adherence, for the secondary causes above, for sleep apnoea, and for the medicines that quietly raise pressure such as anti-inflammatories and decongestants. It is a reason to see the specialist rather than to add a fourth tablet.

Home monitoring

A validated upper-arm monitor, readings morning and evening for a week, seated and rested, written down or photographed. That record is worth more than any single clinic reading and is what the specialist adjusts treatment against.

The consultation, and what follows from it

Questions patients ask

The 2025 guideline classifies readings in stages, and the threshold for treatment depends on your overall cardiovascular risk. The specialist explains where your readings sit and what that means for you.

This guide is general information, not advice about you. Long-term conditions are managed on your own results and history, which is what the specialist consultation is for.
