BLOOD TEST · SMART CARE POLYCLINIC, DEIRA
AMH explained
An estimate of how many eggs remain in the ovaries, taken on any day of the cycle.
Order it on its own, or build your own blood test profile — 4 or more tests save up to 30–50%.
What the AMH test measures
AMH is made by the small follicles in the ovaries, so its level reflects how many eggs remain. It does not measure egg quality and does not predict whether you will conceive naturally, but it helps plan fertility treatment and timing.
What the result tells you
Lower than expected
Suggests a smaller egg reserve for your age, which can be a reason not to delay trying or treatment.
Higher than expected
Is common in PCOS, where the ovaries hold many small follicles.
What it cannot say
It is not a fertility verdict: many women with a low AMH conceive, and the result is read with age, scan and other hormones.
How to prepare
- Fasting
- Not required
- Best time
- Any day of the cycle
What can move the result
A result outside the usual range does not on its own mean something is wrong. These are the everyday explanations a doctor considers first.

Commonly: age; hormonal contraception, which can lower it slightly; previous ovarian surgery; vitamin D deficiency, modestly. A single result is not a diagnosis. Values are read against the laboratory's own reference range and alongside your history, your symptoms and the rest of the panel — which is why every package includes a doctor to go through them with you.
