Blood Group explained
Your blood type (A, B, AB or O, positive or negative), essential in pregnancy.
Order it on its own, or build your own blood test profile — 4 or more tests save up to 30–50%.
What the Blood Group test measures
Blood group tells which markers your red cells carry: A, B, both or neither, and whether they carry the Rh (rhesus) marker. In pregnancy, being Rh negative matters, because your body can make antibodies against an Rh positive baby.
What the result tells you
Rh positive
Most people; nothing further is needed.
Rh negative
You are offered anti-D injections in pregnancy and after the birth to protect this baby and future ones.
Useful for life
Knowing your group helps in an emergency or before surgery.
How to prepare
- Fasting
- Not required
- Best time
- Any time of day
What can move the result
A result outside the usual range does not on its own mean something is wrong. These are the everyday explanations a doctor considers first.

Commonly: a recent blood transfusion, rarely. A single result is not a diagnosis. Values are read against the laboratory's own reference range and alongside your history, your symptoms and the rest of the panel — which is why every package includes a doctor to go through them with you.
