BLOOD TEST · SMART CARE POLYCLINIC, DEIRA
Progesterone explained
The hormone that rises after ovulation; a mid-luteal level shows whether ovulation happened.
Order it on its own, or build your own blood test profile — 4 or more tests save up to 30–50%.
What the Progesterone test measures
After an egg is released, the ovary makes progesterone to prepare the womb lining. A level taken about a week before the next period confirms whether ovulation took place, so its timing depends on your cycle length.
What the result tells you
Raised in the second half of the cycle
Confirms that ovulation happened that month.
Low at the right time
Suggests that cycle did not ovulate, or that the sample was taken too early or late.
Timing is everything
On a 28-day cycle it is taken on day 21; on longer cycles, later. Ask us which day suits yours.
How to prepare
- Fasting
- Not required
- Best time
- About 7 days before your next expected period
What can move the result
A result outside the usual range does not on its own mean something is wrong. These are the everyday explanations a doctor considers first.

Commonly: the day of the cycle; hormonal contraception; progesterone medicines; pregnancy. A single result is not a diagnosis. Values are read against the laboratory's own reference range and alongside your history, your symptoms and the rest of the panel — which is why every package includes a doctor to go through them with you.
