BLOOD TEST · SMART CARE POLYCLINIC, DEIRA
Rubella Test explained
Shows whether you are immune to rubella (German measles), which matters in pregnancy.
What the Rubella Test measures
Rubella IgG antibodies show past vaccination or infection. Rubella early in pregnancy can harm the baby, so the test checks that you are protected, and if not, how to stay safe.
What the result tells you
If it's positive (immune)
You are protected; nothing more is needed.
If it's negative
Avoid contact with anyone with a rash illness while pregnant, and have the MMR vaccine after the birth.
Before pregnancy
Checking first means you can be vaccinated, then wait a month before trying to conceive.
How to prepare
- Fasting
- Not required
- Best time
- Any time of day
What can move the result
A result outside the usual range does not on its own mean something is wrong. These are the everyday explanations a doctor considers first.

Commonly: vaccination history; time since vaccination, as antibodies can fade. A single result is not a diagnosis. Values are read against the laboratory's own reference range and alongside your history, your symptoms and the rest of the panel — which is why every package includes a doctor to go through them with you.
