BLOOD TEST · SMART CARE POLYCLINIC, DEIRA
Syphilis Test explained
A routine antenatal blood test for syphilis, which can be treated safely in pregnancy.
Order it on its own, or build your own blood test profile — 4 or more tests save up to 30–50%.
What the Syphilis Test measures
VDRL and RPR are screening tests for syphilis. It is checked in every pregnancy because treatment with antibiotics protects the baby completely when it is found early.
What the result tells you
If it's negative
No infection is detected, the usual result.
If it's reactive
A confirmation test follows, as other conditions and pregnancy itself can cause a false positive.
If confirmed
Treated with antibiotics, safe in pregnancy, with the partner tested too.

What can move the result
A result outside the usual range does not on its own mean something is wrong. These are the everyday explanations a doctor considers first.

Commonly: pregnancy and some autoimmune conditions (false positives); a previously treated infection. A single result is not a diagnosis. Values are read against the laboratory's own reference range and alongside your history, your symptoms and the rest of the panel — which is why every package includes a doctor to go through them with you.
