What is Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal uses light absorbed by the pigment in the hair to heat and disable the follicle. It reduces hair over a course of sessions rather than removing it permanently in one go — the phrase to hold onto is long-term reduction, not permanent removal.
A network meta-analysis of 13 randomised trials covering 652 people found lasers and intense pulsed light safe and effective, with all side effects transient and no permanent scarring.1 The same analysis notes longer follow-up is still needed to say which device performs best over years rather than months.
It works on hair that carries pigment, which means grey, white and very fine blonde hair responds poorly. A doctor should tell you that before you pay for a package, not after.
How it works
Because only follicles in their active growth phase respond, and only a fraction are active at any moment, sessions are spaced four to six weeks apart and six to eight are typically needed. The device settings are matched to your skin tone and hair type, with a test patch first. A cooling system protects the surface of the skin while the follicle is heated.

Alexandrite — 755 nm
The shorter wavelength. Pigment absorbs it strongly, which makes it efficient on fine and light hair — but that strong absorption is also why it is reserved for lighter skin tones, where there is less pigment in the skin to compete for the energy.
Nd:YAG — 1064 nm
The longer wavelength. It passes the surface pigment more safely and reaches deeper, which is what makes it the safer choice on brown and dark skin — the setting most people in this region are treated on.

Pricing
All prices in UAE dirhamsPrices are per area. Hair grows in cycles, so a single session only treats the hairs growing that day — a 3- or 6-session course spaced over several weeks is what actually clears an area. Prices are fixed and confirmed at your visit; the doctor recommends only what suits you. All prices are exclusive of 5% VAT.
Expected results
Shedding starts one to three weeks after each session, and most people see a meaningful reduction in density and thickness by the third or fourth. A realistic expectation after a full course is a large reduction with occasional maintenance, not a permanently bare area.
Who it may suit
Best suited to hair with visible pigment. All skin tones can be treated with the correct device and settings, though darker skin needs a more conservative approach. Hormonal conditions such as PCOS can drive regrowth, so identifying them changes the plan and the expectations.
Side effects & aftercare
Individual responses vary — the team explains everything before treatment and is one message away after it.
- Redness and slight swelling around each follicle for a few hours is normal and expected.
- No sun exposure, sunbeds or self-tan for two weeks before and after; SPF 50 on exposed areas.
- Avoid hot showers, sauna and exercise for twenty-four hours.
- Do not wax, pluck or thread between sessions — the follicle has to be present. Shaving is fine.
Frequently asked questions
It is permanent reduction, not permanent removal. Expect a large drop in density and thickness after a full course, with occasional maintenance sessions. Anyone promising permanent removal is overselling it.
All skin tones can be treated with an appropriate device and settings — darker skin simply needs a more careful approach and a test patch. What matters more is the hair: pigmented hair responds, grey and very fine blonde hair largely does not.
The laser targets the follicle, so the hair has to be there. Waxing, plucking and threading remove it. Shaving between sessions is fine and is what the clinic will ask you to do.
Most people describe a hot elastic-band snap. Modern cooling makes it very manageable, and sensitive areas like the bikini line are the ones people notice most.
