Candela GentleMax Pro
What it is
The GentleMax Pro is Candela's dual-wavelength laser and the device most clinics measure others against. We use it for laser hair removal. Ours is the current 2026 model, sourced directly from the original distributor — which matters more than it sounds: grey-market and counterfeit laser heads are a real problem in this market, and they are the reason to ask any clinic where their device came from.
How it works
The laser works by putting light into the pigment in the hair. The pigment absorbs it, turns it to heat, and the heat disables the follicle it is attached to — which is why hair with no pigment in it, grey and white and very fine blonde, does not respond. The two wavelengths exist because skin has pigment too, and the setting that works safely on pale skin is not the setting that works safely on dark skin. Candela's DCD cooling sprays the surface immediately before each pulse, so the follicle takes the energy while the skin stays protected.
OPTION 1 · WITH NEEDLES
Alexandrite — 755 nm
The shorter wavelength. Pigment absorbs it strongly, which makes it efficient on fine and light hair — but that strong absorption is also why it is reserved for lighter skin tones, where there is less pigment in the skin to compete for the energy.
OPTION 2 · NEEDLE-FREE
Nd:YAG — 1064 nm
The longer wavelength. It passes the surface pigment more safely and reaches deeper, which is what makes it the safer choice on brown and dark skin — the setting most people in this region are treated on.
Which one you have is decided at the consultation, not before it — and the two can be combined across a course. If needles are the part putting you off, say so: the needle-free mode is a real option rather than a lesser version of the same thing.

Who it suits
Hair that carries pigment responds; grey, white and very fine blonde hair largely does not, and a doctor should tell you that before you buy a course. All skin tones can be treated with the correct wavelength and a conservative approach where needed.
What to expect
Shedding starts one to three weeks after each session, with a meaningful drop in density by the third or fourth. A full course gives long-term reduction with occasional maintenance — not permanent removal, whatever else you may have been told.
