A Hollywood smile is a planned makeover of the teeth that show when you smile — usually with thin ceramic veneers, sometimes with crowns where a tooth needs more support — designed as a set so the shape, shade and alignment work together. What it is
A Hollywood smile is not one procedure — it is a design. The dentist looks at your face, lips, gums and bite as well as your teeth, and plans a set of veneers or crowns so the result looks like your teeth at their best rather than a row of identical white blocks. Shade, length, shape and how much tooth shows when you talk are all decided before anything is prepared.
Most of the work is done with veneers. A veneer is a thin shell of ceramic, usually E.max (lithium disilicate) or a similar glass-ceramic, bonded to the front of a tooth after a very thin layer of enamel is removed. Where a tooth is heavily filled, root-treated or badly broken down, a zirconia crown is used instead, because a veneer needs sound enamel to bond to.
Veneers last well when they are bonded to enamel. A meta-analysis of thirteen studies found ceramic veneers survived at 89% over a median nine years, and glass-ceramic veneers at 94%; chipping or fracture was the commonest problem, at 4%.1 In a series of 580 veneers followed for up to twelve years, 99% survived when the preparation stayed within enamel, against roughly ten times the failure rate when they were bonded to dentine.2 That is why the dentist here removes as little tooth as the design allows, and why teeth that need more than that get a crown rather than a veneer.
What AED 10,000 covers
One price for the whole plan, agreed before you start. It includes the free consultation and examination, X-rays, a digital design and mock-up you approve, preparation of the teeth, temporary veneers while the final ones are made, the final ceramic veneers or crowns, fitting, and a check afterwards.
The plan is written for your teeth, not a fixed number of units. How many teeth are included depends on how many show when you smile and what each of them needs — that is decided with you at the consultation and written into the plan. If a tooth needs a root canal or gum treatment first, that is quoted separately and done before the cosmetic work, never squeezed in around it.
Whitening first, if you want lighter natural teeth. Ceramic cannot be whitened later, so where the plan leaves some natural teeth visible, they are whitened first and the veneers matched to the new shade.
How the visits run
Visit one — consultation, photographs, X-rays and design. The dentist checks that your teeth and gums are healthy enough, discusses what you dislike about your smile and what you want to keep, and takes the records the design is built from. Nothing is prepared at this visit.
Visit two — mock-up and preparation. A trial version of the design is placed over your own teeth so you can see the shape and length in your mouth before agreeing to it. Once approved, the teeth are prepared under local anaesthetic, impressions or scans are taken, the shade is chosen together, and temporaries are fitted.
Visit three — fitting. About one to two weeks later, the final veneers are tried in, checked for fit, colour and bite, adjusted if needed, and bonded. A short review visit follows to fine-tune the bite.
What a Hollywood smile can and cannot do
It can change the colour, shape, length and surface of front teeth, close small gaps, disguise mild crowding or rotation, and rebuild chipped or worn edges.
It cannot move teeth — significant crowding or a bite problem needs aligners or braces first, and the dentist will say so. It cannot be whitened afterwards. It is not reversible: enamel that has been prepared does not grow back, and a veneer that fails is replaced with another veneer or a crown. And it does not remove the need for cleaning; the tooth under the edge of a veneer can still decay.
Grinding shortens the life of any ceramic. If you clench or grind at night, a night guard is part of the plan, because chipping is the commonest way veneers fail.1
Veneers or crowns for each tooth
Veneer where there is sound enamel; crown where there is not. The decision is made tooth by tooth. A healthy front tooth with a shape or colour problem gets a veneer. A tooth that is root-treated, heavily filled or fractured gets a zirconia or E.max crown, because a crown holds the tooth together as well as covering it. In the 2026 meta-analysis, monolithic lithium disilicate and zirconia crowns survived at 98.5% and 96.8% over five years respectively, so mixing the two in one smile costs nothing in longevity.3

As many as show when you smile and need treating — that varies from person to person and is decided with you at the consultation, then written into the plan. Someone with a wide smile may show ten upper teeth; someone else six.
In the pooled studies, about 89 in 100 ceramic veneers were still in place after a median of nine years, and about 94 in 100 glass-ceramic ones. Veneers bonded entirely to enamel did best, with 99% survival in one twelve-year series. Chipping is the commonest failure, which is why a night guard is recommended if you grind.
Preparation is done under local anaesthetic, so the appointment should not hurt. Some sensitivity to cold while temporaries are on and for a short while after fitting is common and settles.
It is not reversible. Enamel removed to fit a veneer does not regrow, so a veneer that fails is replaced rather than removed. That is a reason to be sure about the design, which is why a mock-up is placed in your mouth before any tooth is prepared.
No — ceramic does not change colour with whitening. If you want whiter natural teeth, whitening is done before the veneers are made so they can be matched to the result.
If the teeth are significantly crowded or the bite is wrong, yes: veneers can disguise mild irregularity but cannot move teeth, and preparing crowded teeth to look straight removes too much enamel. The dentist will say honestly if clear aligners should come first.
