Teeth Whitening and Veneers in Dubai

Whitening lifts staining out of natural enamel; veneers change the shape, colour and surface of a tooth with a thin ceramic shell bonded to its front. One is for teeth that are healthy but dull; the other for teeth that are chipped, uneven or too dark to whiten. At Smart Care Polyclinic in Deira, in-clinic whitening is AED 350 per session and veneers are quoted at the free consultation.

What it is

Whitening uses a peroxide gel to break down the stain molecules inside enamel. In the clinic, a stronger gel is applied under supervision with the gums protected, usually in three short cycles over about an hour. Teeth typically lift several shades in one session. The evidence review is clear that peroxide whitening is safe and effective when the protocol is followed; the common side effects are temporary sensitivity and gum irritation.1

Whitening does not change crowns, veneers or fillings, which is why the dentist checks what you have before booking it — a whitened smile with one old crown that stayed the same colour is a common and avoidable disappointment.1

A veneer is a thin shell of ceramic bonded to the front of a tooth. It is used where whitening cannot help: a tooth that is chipped, worn short, twisted, gappy, or stained from within. A very thin layer of enamel is removed so the veneer sits flush, an impression is taken, and the laboratory makes the veneer to a shape and shade agreed with you. Across thirteen studies, ceramic veneers survived at 89% over a median nine years, with chipping the commonest problem at 4%.2 Veneers bonded entirely to enamel did best — 99% over up to twelve years in one series — which is why as little tooth as possible is removed.3

Which do I need?

Healthy, well-shaped teeth that have yellowed: whitening. Teeth with shape, size or alignment problems, or staining whitening cannot shift: veneers, on the affected teeth only. A whole smile that needs redesigning: see the Hollywood smile guide, which plans the front teeth as a set.

Where both are planned, whitening comes first so the veneers can be matched to the new shade.

Keeping the result

Whitening fades gradually as the same tea, coffee and smoking that caused the staining continue; a top-up every year or two keeps it. Veneers last for years but not forever, and they chip if you bite fingernails, open packets with your teeth or grind at night, so a night guard is recommended for grinders.

Questions patients ask

In-clinic whitening is AED 350 per session at Smart Care Polyclinic in Deira. The dentist checks your teeth first, because whitening only works on natural enamel and not on crowns, veneers or fillings.

This guide is general information about a treatment, not advice about your teeth. Which option suits you depends on the tooth, your bite, your gums and what you want long term — all of which the dentist assesses at your free consultation before anything is agreed.
