What is RF Microneedling?
RF microneedling combines two things that each stimulate collagen: fine needles create controlled micro-channels, and radiofrequency energy is released from the needle tips into the deeper layer of the skin. Because the energy is delivered below the surface rather than through it, it can be used across a wide range of skin tones.
The evidence deserves reading carefully rather than selectively. A meta-analysis of 12 studies covering 414 people found microneedling without radiofrequency achieved significant improvement in acne scarring, while the fractional radiofrequency group did not reach significance.1
What both forms showed was no post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation — the real advantage in darker skin tones, and a large part of why it is offered here rather than a resurfacing laser.
If acne scarring is your main concern, ask the doctor directly whether the radiofrequency component is adding anything for you. It is a fair question and there is a fair answer.
How it works
Numbing cream is applied for about thirty minutes. The handpiece stamps across the treatment area, with needle depth and energy set for each zone — deeper on scarring, more conservative around the eyes. The controlled injury triggers wound healing, and new collagen is laid down over the following weeks. A course of three sessions four to six weeks apart is standard.

PERFORMED ON
Micro Derma Pro
Performed on the Micro Derma Pro, which can be used two ways — with needles, or without them.
- Face lifting
- Skin tightening
- Wrinkle reduction
- Pore reduction
- Acne scars
- Scars
- Stretch marks
With needles
Fine needles enter at a set depth and release radiofrequency underneath. The deeper option — used for scarring, stretch marks and laxity.
Needle-freeNO NEEDLES
Radiofrequency through the surface, no needles and no recovery time. Used for tightening where the skin surface is better left alone.

Expected results
Skin often looks smoother and tighter within a week or two, but collagen remodelling is slow: the real result builds over three to six months after the final session. Scarring in particular improves progressively rather than dramatically, and honest before-and-after photos are worth more than promises.
Who it may suit
Considered for acne scarring, enlarged pores, early laxity and uneven texture. Active acne, current isotretinoin use and a tendency to keloid scarring all change the plan — sometimes to a different treatment entirely — which the consultation exists to establish.
Side effects & aftercare
Individual responses vary — the team explains everything before treatment and is one message away after it.
- Expect redness and a warm, tight, sunburn-like feeling for two to three days, sometimes with light swelling on day one.
- Keep the skin bare for twenty-four hours, then plain moisturiser and SPF 50 daily.
- Pause retinoids, acids and vitamin C for five days; no sauna, swimming or intense exercise for forty-eight hours.
- Tiny scabs or dry flaking around day three are normal — let them come away on their own.
Frequently asked questions
Most people see a meaningful improvement over a course, not complete resolution. Rolling and boxcar scars respond better than deep ice-pick scars, and your doctor should tell you which type you have and what that means at the consultation.
Generally yes — the radiofrequency energy is delivered below the surface rather than absorbed by pigment, so the risk of post-inflammatory pigmentation is lower than with ablative lasers. Settings are still adjusted, and sun protection afterwards is non-negotiable.
Usually three, spaced four to six weeks apart. Significant scarring sometimes needs more, which is reviewed as you go rather than sold upfront.
Not for twenty-four hours. After that, mineral makeup is usually fine, though most people prefer to wait until the redness has settled on day two or three.
