What is Profhilo?
Profhilo is a stabilised hyaluronic acid injected just under the skin to hydrate and remodel it. It does not add volume and it does not change your shape. It is a skin-quality treatment, not a filler — the aim is skin that looks better hydrated and a little firmer.
What makes it different is the material. It is built on hybrid cooperative complexes of high- and low-molecular-weight hyaluronic acid, which spread through the tissue rather than holding a shape.
On safety, the numbers are unusually large. Post-marketing data covering roughly 1.09 million patients treated on the face recorded adverse events in 0.034% — most commonly swelling, redness and discomfort at the injection points.1 Two things to weigh: several authors of that analysis work for the manufacturer, and post-marketing reporting captures fewer events than a trial would.
On results, a 12-month study of 34 women found laxity scores fell significantly by month 3 and held to month 12, with at least half reporting moderate improvement in firmness, smoothness and hydration.2 That study treated the upper inner arms rather than the face, and had no control group, so read it as supportive rather than conclusive.
Because it spreads instead of holding a shape, it will not give you sharper cheekbones or a different jawline. If that is what you are after, a doctor will say so and talk you through the alternatives.
How it works
Ten small injections are placed across the face at five fixed points on each side, chosen because they are anatomically safe and let the product disperse evenly. The hyaluronic acid draws water into the tissue straight away, and over the following weeks it stimulates the skin's own collagen and elastin production. A standard course is two sessions four weeks apart, with a top-up at around six months if your doctor recommends one.

Expected results
Most people notice better hydration and light reflection within a couple of weeks. The firming effect builds more slowly and is usually judged after the second session, around six to eight weeks from the start. Effects typically last six to nine months and vary with age, skin condition and lifestyle.
Who it may suit
Often considered from the late twenties onwards for skin that reads dull, dehydrated or slightly lax, and by people who want an improvement in skin quality without looking treated. It is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, or with an active skin infection at the injection site.
Side effects & aftercare
Individual responses vary — the team explains everything before treatment and is one message away after it.
- Small raised bumps at each injection point are expected and usually flatten within four to twenty-four hours.
- Mild redness, tenderness or bruising can occur; makeup can usually go back on the next day.
- Avoid saunas, steam rooms, intense exercise and facial massage for twenty-four hours.
- Contact the clinic if you have increasing pain, blanching of the skin, or swelling that worsens after day two.
