What is Medical Weight Loss?

This is a medical programme, not an aesthetic package. It begins with a doctor consultation, measurements and blood tests to understand what is actually driving the weight — thyroid function, insulin resistance, medications and sleep all matter.

Where it is clinically appropriate, prescription medication such as a GLP-1 receptor agonist may be offered as part of the plan. These are prescription-only medicines with real side effects and clear eligibility criteria; they are not dispensed on request.

The trial evidence is genuinely strong. Over 104 weeks, semaglutide alongside lifestyle intervention produced a mean weight change of −15.2% against −2.6% on placebo.1

Weigh this finding just as heavily: a year after stopping the drug, participants had regained roughly two-thirds of the weight they lost.2 That is why this is framed as ongoing treatment of a chronic condition rather than a course you finish and walk away from.

How it works

After the initial assessment and bloods, your doctor sets a plan with a target rate of loss and a review schedule. If medication is included, it is started at a low dose and titrated upward with monitoring at each step. Follow-ups track weight, measurements, side effects and bloods, and cover the part that decides long-term outcomes: what happens when the medication stops.

Expected results

Outcomes vary considerably with the starting point, the plan and how well it fits your life. A steady, sustainable rate of loss is the goal, reviewed at each follow-up. Anyone quoting you a guaranteed number of kilos in a fixed number of weeks is guessing.

Who it may suit

Appropriate for people whose weight is affecting their health and who want a medically supervised approach. Medication is not suitable for everyone — pregnancy, breastfeeding, certain thyroid and pancreatic histories and some medication combinations rule it out, which the assessment establishes before anything is prescribed.

Side effects & aftercare

Individual responses vary — the team explains everything before treatment and is one message away after it.

  • GLP-1 medications commonly cause nausea, reflux or constipation, particularly in the first weeks and after each dose increase.
  • Report severe abdominal pain, persistent vomiting or signs of dehydration to the clinic promptly.
  • Protein intake and resistance training matter — losing weight rapidly without them costs you muscle.
  • Attend the scheduled reviews; dose changes and blood monitoring depend on them.

Frequently asked questions

No. These are prescription-only medicines with defined eligibility criteria and real side effects. They require a consultation, blood tests and ongoing monitoring, and a doctor here will decline if you do not meet the criteria.
